Stella Prize shortlist, now ready for reading
Last week judges of the 2019 Stella Prize announced their shortlist for this year’s award.
The shortlisted books are:
- Little Gods by Jenny Ackland
- The Bridge by Enza Gandolfo
- Pink Mountain on Locust Island by Jamie Marina Lau,
- The Erratics by Vicki Laveau-Harvie
- Too Much Lip by Melissa Lucashenko
- Axiomatic by Maria Tumarkin
Judging panel chair Louise Swinn described the list as representing “an incredibly diverse knot of books, with broad subjects showing that identity is shaped across many continents and informed by many cultures’’.
Swinn’s colleagues on the judging panel include author Michelle de Kretser, journalist and ABC presenter Daniel Browning, Sydney journalist Kate McClymont, and Sydney Writers Festival programmer Amelia Lush.
The $50,000 Stella Prize is awarded to the best fiction or non-fiction work by an Australian woman published in the previous calendar year. Each shortlisted author receives $3000 and a three-week writing retreat on the Victorian coast, supported by the Trawalla Foundation.
The Stella Prize winner will be announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on April 9.
