And for our Literary Parcel, Pete has selected Geoff Weaver’s 2019 Adelaide Hills Riesling (rrp$30) to accompany our 2020 book club highlight ‘American Dirt’ by Jeanine Cummins (rrp$32.99) for $55.

In support of Australia’s bushfire-affected communities, we asked Peter to focus on vineyards affected by the December-January fires. Here are Peter’s tasting notes, to whet your appetite:

Bellebonne Vintage Cuvée Rosé 2017

An exciting and very limited release from Tasmania, this is the private label of the Queen of Australian sparkling wine, Natalie Fryar who was behind the Jansz label for many years. She is passionate about premium sparkling wines from Tassie and this wine is a true labour of love. Only produced in exceptional years, and the bushfires in the south of Tassie in 2019 mean it will be unlikely that we see a wine from Natalie from this vintage. Truly exceptional and the rival of great Champagne this is a rare treat. RRP $75

Geoff Weaver Adelaide Hills Riesling 2019

Geoff Weaver is a veteran of the Oz wine industry having been head winemaker at Hardy’s before pioneering the Adelaide Hills wine region. The 2020 bushfires devastated Geoff’s vineyards, and this is the second time he has been the victim of the bushfire curse. His 2019 Riesling is stunning, and now sold out, but we secured some stocks for this offer. The wine is pristine & pure with a beautiful scented lime/citrus perfume and a racy fresh crisp finish. Perfect with grilled seafood and Asian dishes, incluiding spicy salads. RRP $30

Sailor Seeks Horse Pinot Noir 2018

Paul and Gilly Lidscombe are highly in demand as ‘Winemaker’s for Hire’ and make some of the finest Pinots Noir in Tassie. Their own Sailor Seeks Horse wine comes from a tiny vineyard in the Huon Valley that they purchased and resurrected from near ruin and is now one of the most highly regarded in all of the Apple Isle. They were also badly affected in 2019 by smoke taint from the bushfires so we won’t see another wine from them for almost 2 years! This is silky, seductive and sophisticated – we love it! RRP $50

Peter is also offering a special half-dozen bookshop deal of 2 of each of the wines - minus the books - for $250. You are welcome to contact him directly about this wine-only deal via peter@winestyleonline.com.au
