Our Autumn cookbook highlight

The school holidays, Easter and Passover period is always a time for serious feasting, and there have been many recipe discussions in our shop in recent weeks.

One of the surprise packages among our New Release cookbooks is Favourite Recipes by the gang at goodfood.com.au. More than 100 fabulous recipes chosen by Good Food editor Ardyn Bernoth showcase the talents of her regular contributors, including Neil Perry, Kylie Kwong, Adam Liaw, Andrew McConnell and Helen Goh. The book’s layout is highly accessible, the recipes are pitched at the average home cook’s standard, and the food styling is superb.

But what we love most is the successful meshing together of the many different cultural influences and extraordinary range of ingredients that make up Australian cuisine. In just one week’s meal planning you can experiment with the tastes of Asia ( Salmon with Coconut Milk, Glass Noodles and Herbs; Tomato, Prawn and Lemongrass Laksa; Japanese-style Chicken Meatballs), satisfy your inner vegetarian (Beetroot Tarte Tartin With Rye Crust; Chickpea and Roast Pumpkin Casserole), try a Mediterranean-inspired menu (Rigatoni With Smoky Eggplant, Tomato and Oregano; Greek Lamb And Feta Pie; Chicken And Capsicum Tray Bake; ) nod politely to French traditions (Comte Cheese Quiche, Veal Shank Slow-cooked in Red Wine; Spiced Apple Tarte Tartin With Ginger Beer Caramel) and be inspired on Aussie country classics with a twist (Home-style Fried Eggs With Chilli Sauce; Brown Butter And Citrus Roasted Carrots; Lemon and Raspberry Loaf Cake; Pineapple Jam and Lime Tarts).

We highly recommend this superbly-produced recipe collection, Happy cooking!
